If health advice or vaccinations are needed for your holiday, then please contact the surgery after booking your holiday. Please complete the attached form at the bottom of this page. This can either be brought in to the surgery or emailed to thorpelesoken.surgery@nhs.net

A double appointment will be made for you with the practice nurse at a time convenient to you. At the appointment the nurse will have prepared travel advice and checked which immunisations you will require.

Some courses of vaccines can take up to nine months. In general, the longer your stay in a country the more vaccines are likely to be needed, especially if the stay is likely to be a month or more.

The practice nurse can offer advice on reducing potential health risks whilst on holiday. Travel health related topics that might be discussed with you include:

  • Vaccinations and anti-malarial drugs

  • Food and water precautions

  • Insect and animal bite precautions

  • Sun exposure

  • Reducing the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) on long-haul journeys

A variety of leaflets are available and Malaria tablets are available from the surgery.

Most vaccines are kept in stock. There may be a cost for some vaccines and you will be advised of this at your appointment.
