With sensible planning, there should never be a situation whereby you run out of routine medication. The surgery usually requires 48 hours for a repeat prescription and is happy for you to order this sometime before you are due to run out.

Many drugs are not life saving and no harm will come if you run out over for example a weekend.  Your doctor or pharmacist will be able to advise you on this.  If you are in doubt check.

If you run out, contact the surgery and we will do our best to get the prescription printed and fulfilled for you.  If you run out over a weekend, you may be able to persuade your regular pharmacist to issue an emergency supply.

If you are away from home, you should contact a surgery close to where you are staying.  They will require you to register as a ‘temporary patient’ and then they will be able to issue a repeat prescription.  They may require to see a copy of your repeat medication slip, the empty containers or may contact us first before issuing the prescription.
