Dispensary

Thorpe-le-Soken is a dispensing practice. This means that we are allowed to dispense medication to patients whose home address is more than 1 mile from a chemist. If you are a dispensing patient you can collect medication at the time of seeing the doctor or nurse but you also have the right to take your prescription to a pharmacy of your choice, should you wish to do so.

      Drug Stocks

We try to keep a stock of our most commonly used medicines at all times and we receive deliveries of further stock on a daily basis. During periods of high demand, or when there are supplier or delivery problems we may occasionally run out of stock, but we are usually able to acquire items within 24 hours.

     Requesting Repeat Prescriptions

Requests for repeat prescriptions can be made in writing, in         person, by telephone or by using the on line service (available in and out of hours). It is worth bearing in mind that first thing in the morning is a particularly busy time for the receptionists, so if a telephone requests is being made you may find it easier to get through later in the day. Medicines will always be available for collection as soon as possible, but we do ask for at least 48 working hours notice in normal circumstances.

Collection and Delivery

For patients who live in Weeley, prescriptions are taken to a collection point in Weeley on a Thursday morning at the current time.  Unfortunately we are no longer able to provide this service and it will be stopping at the end of February.  However, there will continue to be a box in Weeley where you can leave your medication requests, which will be collected twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

For those patients who find it difficult to get to the surgery to collect their medication, we have a delivery service on Thursdays. You must be at home to receive the medication when it is delivered to sign for the medication. We are unable to say what time the delivery will be made.  If you would like to take advantage of this service, please indicate that you would like the items delivered whenever you order your medication.

Prescription Charges

If you pay for your prescriptions, any charge must be paid at the time your medicines are collected. If you order more than 3 types of medication per month and you pay for your prescriptions, you may wish to consider buying a Prepayment Certificate, which may work out cheaper. If you would like further information, please speak to a member of staff.
